Ford to retool U.S. plants for European cars: report - Reuters
Car maker Ford Motor Co is drawing up plans to retool American plants to make small, fuel-efficient passenger cars that it mainly makes and sells in Europe, the Wall Street Journal reported on Saturday.

American Airlines to lay off 1,500 maintenance jobs
American Airlines said it expects to lay off about 1,300 aircraft mechanics and 200 management and support staff positions as it begins retiring its A300 fleet later this year. In a Thursday letter to employees, the Fort Worth, Texas-based airline said it is taking steps to reduce the number of furloughs by offering voluntary packages that would remove them from the payroll. American had announced previously that it would lay off 900 flight attendants and 200 pilots.
Freddie Mac chief executive gets US$19.8 million in 2007
Freddie Mac chairman and chief executive Richard Syron pocketed nearly US$19.8 million in compensation last year, according to a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filing Friday, even though the mortgage company's stock lost half its value in 2007.
