Lake Erie Walleye

After several years of average catch rates on Lake Erie, we are finally getting back on track. After the record hatch of 2003, this season of 2006 should be the best fishing we have had in around 20 years. Already this season we have had catch rates three times the norm and we are excited at Erie's Future Charters to dig into this 2006 season.
Numbers predicted this year of legal walleye to be thrown on Ice are over 50 million. Wow...thats going to change things here on Erie!
Charters are already booking fast with the predicted season and any angler looking to fish Erie this season should wait no longer to reserve their dates.

Discrimination that is What This IS!

I am so disappointed in the recent decision of the Ohio House of
Representatives vote on the SB17 Bill. I feel as if I am being
discriminated against, because I was not a victim of the Catholic
Priesthood. I was victimized, as many others, by a family member.

The Catholic Officials have promised to make changes and to educate and to
help counsel the victims of Clergy Abuse, in order to influence a decision
from the House that will allow them to continue to keep their secrets.

What is the STATE of OHIO and the Catholic Church going to do for the
Victims that were sexually abused by family and other acquaintance? Is
the State of Ohio going to stand back and discriminate against me and all
the other fellow victims not abused by priest?

The Ohio Lawmakers are to protect and serve the Ohio Citizens...Not just
the CATHOLIC CITIZENS! Sexual Abuse is not JUST a Catholic Issue!

I deserve the same support and the opportunity to expose my molester, (who
lives across the street from an elementary school), just the same as all
the victims of clergy...The Catholic Church is not going to put a picture
of my Uncle on their website and registry...So how does the Ohio Lawmakers
plan to give me the same support that the Catholic Church is claiming they
will now give to the abuse victims of their Clergy.

I cried in shame at the age of 7 years old through my teens years because
of the abuse I was encountering...I am turning 42 years old today, I
still cry, but this time, it is not the cry of SHAME...It is the cry of
frustration and anger because I am being abused again, this time by the
State of OHIO.

Ohio Lawmakers Refuse to Listen to Victims of Abuse, Before Voting on SB 17 BILL

Please plan to attend! November 9, 2005

The Senate Bill that helps keep kids safe in Ohio and helps victims heal (Senate Bill 17) passed unanimously in the Senate in March. Since then the bill has been stalled in the House of Representatives. No need to explain who is behind that effort , but the bottom line is that we have been unable to get the chance to bring victim testimony to the House of Representatives.

On Nov 10 the House Judiciary Committee will hear testimony on Senate Bill 17 but they refuse to hear from victims on that day. They claim they will only hear testimony regarding the Constitutionality of the Bill. We know that unless the legislators hear voices and experiences of the victims they won't vote for the Bill.

Since they won't allow us to speak to the Committee at their hearings we plan to hold our own hearings. We will invite all the Representatives and Senators and their staffs to come to hear the victims. We're also inviting all the press so we can publicize that the Representatives aren't taking victims' testimony.

If your a victim, a survivor or a supporter of a victim or survivor, Please make it apoint to be in Columbus on November the 9th, so that Law makers will know that you CARE about the victims and the innocent potential victims, that they do not want to protect.

If you are only able to take one day off from work for the rest of the year this is the day to do so.

Please bring people with you. Please bring all relatives, in-laws, grandparents, grown children, spouses, associates, club members, teammates, bowling partners, etc. If anyone owes you a favor this is the time to cash in and get them to come with you.

We need as many folks to attend as possible. You won't regret it. Everyone who comes will learn something and will make a difference. Many friends and family members frequently say, "I would help if I could." So this is the chance to say to them, "You can help just by being in Columbus on Nov 9." Everyone's presence will be appreciated. No one has to speak. The important thing is to have folks there who care about protecting Ohio's kids and helping victims heal. Everyone's presence speaks volumes. More than anything we need folks to sit in the seats and show the media, and any legislator who might come, that there are citizens who care. These care so much they have driven to Columbus on a business day just to support victims speaking out.

3 Important Events (with a pizza supper in the middle)

Time:

2:00 - 4:00 Victims Speak Out (explanation below)

4:00 - 5:00 Go to House of Representatives Members Offices and drop off flyers

6:30 - 7:30 Candle Light Vigil

FYI: In between events we will meet over Pizza (everyone buys their own drinks - canteen machines, we'll provide the pizza & salad) (Anyone else want to bring brownies or cookies?)

All events take place at or within walking distance of the Capitol, Columbus

The event will be sponsored by the Ohio Coalition On Sexual Assault and possibly others. (Still finalizing details)Any one who has been sexually assaulted or cares about victims will be permitted to speak at the event: this includes survivors, victims, family members, friends, supporters, educators, therapists, doctors, nurses, social workers, etc.

We hope the headlines will read something like, "Victims speak out even though Representatives Aren't Listening."

This event is extremely important. If we don't speak up the headlines the following day will be: "Bill is unconstitutional" or "Experts Claim Bill is Unconstitutional" or something like that.

It is extremely possible that at the hearing on Thu Nov 10 (when we won't be permitted to speak) the legislators could decide amongst themselves to amend the Bill to make it "constitutional" and take out the only part of the bill that will help victims and kids (the window). But it will be extremely difficult for them to do that on Thursday if we are successful in getting loads of folks in Columbus and getting some of the victim's stories on the news the evening before and in the paper the morning of the hearing.

Please do everything you can to get to Columbus on Nov 9.

(If you are able to stay over in Columbus until Nov 10 please plan to do so. We will silently sit in the chambers while the Judiciary Committee listens to the testimony on SB 17. Hearing will take place at 9:00 or 9:30 in the a.m. and probably - no guarantees here - be over before noon. (Professor Marci Hamilton will be providing testimony for SNAP.) Please keep in mind though that it is far more important for you to be there on Nov 9 than to attend this hearing. If you can only come one day please make it on Nov 9.)

We are holding the "Victims Speak Out" at 2:00 p.m. in the hopes that some of you who have less than 2 hours to drive will be able to take just the afternoon off from your jobs and still get to Columbus in time. But if you can't take off from work please come when you get off. The Candlelight Vigil will end by 7:45 p.m. so that everyone who needs to drive home that evening can do so and still get home before 10 or 11 p.m.\

New Online Group for Adult Survivors of Sexual Abuse

Everyone knows someone who has been sexually abused or sexually assulted, whether you know it or not. If you do not believe me, then let me introduce myself. I am Patty Rase Hopson and I was sexually abused as a child, while living in South East Ohio.

Sexual abuse has obviously become an epidemic and adults speaking out about the abuse that they encountered as a child, actually helps and protects the next generations. It is also important for adults to respond respsonsibly to the report of childhood sexual abuse. Stopping the predetor, stops future abuse.

I have started a new online group for victims, survivors and the friends and family of victims and survivors. Come join us and share your healing expereince of becoming a survivor. We welcome Friends and Family to come share the affects you have encountered by just being a friend or family member of the abused victim. "The consequences of your denial will be with you for a lifetime and will be passed down to the next generation."

Adults reacting responsibly is the First Step for an abused child to heal. NO CHILD should ever experience child sexual abuse, and then inturn be mentally abused and rejected by their family. Responsible adults need to Hear , Hug and Help give Hope to Heal a sexually abused child.

If you are a victim, survivor, family member or friend of a victim or survivor, stop by my site and it will help you reconize the true pain victim's expereince and the true pain they live with daily. Breaking the Silence is Crucial to Protecting Our Children

Breaking the Silence is Crucial to Protecting Our Children

After being unhappy many years, I chose to go to a psychologist, for assistance dealing with the mental stress that I was under. With the psychologist I reached an area of comfort were I was able to admit to the psychologist, something that I was not able to admit before, not even to myself, because of shame, embarrassment and rejection.

Finally at age 37, I was able to admit that I was an adult victim of child sexual abuse. I am guessing that I was around 8 or 9 years of age, when the abuse started, but I am truly not able to remember the first initial time. The perpetrator was someone my family encouraged me to trust and respect.

My psychologist informed me that typically emotional distress symptoms that I had encountered at the age of 30 were normal, for women who have children the age, that she was, when she was first abused. This was correct in my situation. My oldest daughter was 10, when I first recognized the symptoms of emotional problems, which was later diagnosed as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder -PTSD-. According to Ohio State Laws it was too late to do anything at age 30, when I first started with the symptoms and at 37 when it was properly diagnosed.

The laws of Ohio do not allow an adult who was a victim of sexual abuse as a child to report the incident years later. I was told by the Prosecutor that I needed to report the incidents within three years of my eighteenth birthday. This means that this predator continues to walk the streets. What frightens me most is, this man has the potential to be a predator on my children, my nieces, my friends children even your children and grandchildren. Today's laws do not protect our children against this man or others like him. The laws do not even allow his neighbors to know that he is a predator.

Lawmakers need to realize that most women or men, who were not able to face the embarrassment of the trauma as a child, scared of not being believed, are sometimes able to face the sexual abuse as an adult. By this time, no criminal charges can be filed with the current Ohio Laws of Statue of Limitations.

As an adult approaching my family with the abuse that I encountered as a child, my family is in disbelief. This was my fear as a child, disbelief and why I did not speak up when the abuse started. As I look at where my family and I stand with me admitting to the abuse, my family is in denial. I know now, their reaction would not had been any more supportive for me, if I had told them as a child.

This is why most children are afraid to speak up, when the abuse takes place. They are afraid, that they will be told that it is their fault or that they did something to provoke it. It hurts as an adult to be told these types of things. I can't imagine how bad it would have hurt to be told these things as a child at age 8 or 9.

The adults in the child's life are responsible for preventing, recognizing and reacting responsibly, when a child has been abused. If you tell your child not to talk about it, or try to convince your child it didn't happen, You are as guilty as the perpetrator. The consequences of your denial will be with you for a life time and will be pass down to the next generation.

We must stop this epidemic! Too many children are being abused and are too afraid to speak up. They are afraid of not being believed. The Predator in most cases, is a familiar person, usually a family member to whom the child is to show respect. The respect is a tool of trust that the predator relies on.

We need to change the laws NOW! We will never stop the abuse, if we do not stop the predator. Please write your lawmakers to change the laws! The predators need to be put to justice so that the victims can become survivors and no more innocent children can be abused.
Please visit www.darkness2light.org for information on protecting your children from sexual predators and information on how to be a loving and supportive parent to an abused child. If your child is a victim of abuse, your child needs to know you love and support them no matter what their age.

BREAK THE SILENCE! Protect and Love your children! Write your lawmakers today! You and your children deserve to know who ALL the predators are!
