All of the training is done from home via e-mail and the Internet. This gives people the opportunity to work on their studies as it fits into their schedule.
Medical transcriptionists (MTs) have their work place in many different fields; primarily in hospitals, doctor's offices, clinics, free clinics, health care agencies, medical insurance companies, and transcription pools. Many MTs work out of their homes as self-employed independent contractors or subcontractors, and some are hired with a company as a home-based transcriptionist.
Medical transcriptionists interpret oral dictation by physicians and other healthcare professionals and record the content in a written form (either print or electronic), while editing simultaneoulsy to produce a grammatically correct document. The resulting documentation is the record of patient care that is necessary to facilitate delivery of healthcare services.
